Crew in Wellington Fight to Save Hobbit Film.m4v
Film techies and other film professionals marched in Wellington in protest to the actions taken by an Australian based actor's union which threatens the future of The Hobbit filming in New Zealand, thousands of jobs, and the future of the New Zealand film industry. Music track is 'Precious Ace' by Lucid 3. I haven't asked permission to use this track (but I have purchased the whole album) so if it's not ok, please contact me and I'll take it down. If some of you buy something from Lucid 3 (and you should because they're a great NZ band and Victoria Girling-Butcher has a lovely voice) then hopefully it will all be worthwhile for them! Thanks for watching and support NZ industries!!

Wellington, capital of New Zealand
Wellington, capital of New Zealand
Wellington is the capital city and third most populous urban area of New Zealand. The urban area is situated on the southwestern tip of the country's North Island, and lies between Cook Strait and the Rimutaka Range. It is home to 389700 residents. Wellington is New Zealand's political centre, housing Parliament, the head offices of all Government Ministries and Departments and the bulk of the foreign diplomatic missions that are based in New Zealand. Wellington's compact city centre supports an arts scene, café culture and nightlife much larger than many cities of a similar size. It is an important centre of New Zealand's film and theatre industry, and second to Auckland in terms of numbers of screen industry businesses. Te Papa Tongarewa (the Museum of New Zealand; in a another presentation), the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Museum of Wellington City & Sea and the biennial New Zealand International Arts Festival are all sited there. You will see the city centre, the cable car, the botanic garden with tui (bird; I was very lucky), the gourvernment-buildings and so on and the harbour at departure to the southern island.

Lachine Canal and CN Railroad Bridges Wellington in HQ
Lachine Canal and CN Railroad Bridges Wellington in HQ
The canal is situated on land originally granted by the King of France to the Sulpician Order. Beginning in 1689, attempts were made by the French Colonial government and several other groups to build a canal that would allow ships to bypass the treacherous Lachine Rapids. After more than 130 years of failure, a consortium that included the young Scottish immigrant John Redpath was successful. John Richardson was Chairman of the Committee of Management of the canal project and its chief engineer was Thomas Brunett. The contractors were Thomas McKay and John Redpath, plus the firms of Thomas Phillips & Andrew White and Abner Bagg & Oliver Wait. [1] The new canal officially opened in 1825, helping turn Montreal into a major port and eventually attracting industry to its banks when the Society of Sulpician Order decided to sell lots. It was enlarged and improved in the early 1840s under the supervision of Alfred Barrett. However, while the Lachine canal proved an enormous boon for Montreal and the province of Quebec, time would show that for Canada's Maritime Provinces, it was the first major nail in that region's economic coffin. The canal became obsolete in the second half of the 20th century, being replaced by the St. Lawrence Seaway, which opened in 1959. The canal was finally closed to shipping in 1970. The opening of the Seaway and the decline of shipping on the canal led to the devastation of the neighbourhoods that lined the canal in Montreal's Sud-ouest borough due ...

2011-12-18 - ONE NEWS - JELLYFISH IN WELLINGTON
Commercial squid fishing is being blamed for a rapid decline in the number of sea lions around the South Island's coast. New research has just been released on the impact of squid fishing, and environmentalists say planned government policy will only make things worse. Currently there is a maximum number of sea lions that can be killed each season as by-catch, and when this limit is reached the fishing season is closed. The government is proposing to remove by-catch limits on squid fishing. The sea lion population is currently in decline and fishing plays a big role in this, said researcher Bruce Robertson at zoology department at Otago University. "It's where sea lions get caught in nets sufficiently long enough where they end up drowning." Green Party fisheries spokesman Gareth Hughes is opposed to the proposal. "This is unacceptable given the sea lion population is declining, they're naturally critically endangered, same level as the kakapo and Maui dolphin, yet the government has announced open season on sea lions from the squid fishing industry." The largest sea lion population can be found around the Auckland Islands, 460 kilometres south of Bluff. There has been a 40% drop in pups at their main breeding ground in the Islands, and around 400 sea lions die each year. But the fishing industry says its research shows only 20 of those deaths are because of trawling. George Clements of Deepwater Group told ONE News fishing is to blame for only a small fraction of the ...

Air New Zealand A320 Airbus - Emergency Takeoff Abort! Wellington International 30.03.12.MPG.wmv
Was super lucky to catch this Emergency Take Off Abort in late March 2012. This A320 Airbus was departing WELLINGTON Airport around 8.50AM, when it pulled up MAX BREAKING!! It then limped into the Terminal Apron and had to undertake the mandatory Engineering Cross Checks. When a maneuver as this is carried out, the undercarriage, breaking mechanisms, tyres and surface contact zone SUPER HEAT, and are placed under exceptional stress..,. Why do I know this you ask?.. I am ATPL rated and trained on a modern Jet myself. I'm an EX commercial pilot. I miss the flying but not the industry 'dynamics' and culture! Video was taken from atop the Wellington Air-traffic Control Tower. I was up there carrying out contract work! ENJOY

Ignite Wellington #1 - Dave Moskovitz
Dave engineers businesses at WebFund, Wellington's specialist incubator for online start-ups. He's also a lexicographer, musician, angel investor, cantor, company director, husband/father, marriage celebrant, mentor, and dyed-in-the-wool geek. In his five minutes of fame on the Ignite stage, Dave will talk about the music industry. The music industry is in chaos everyone but the most famous acts struggle to earn a living, the dominant labels still control mainstream production and distribution, and it's so easy to publish yourself that everyone does resulting in potentially great music being drowned in a sea of rubbish. And yet we are witnessing a period of creative productivity unparalleled in history. Who will survive, and more importantly, how? Stage two student Fiona Sole has just finished work for her first solo show, opening at Deluxe café, this Monday, May 25th, at 6pm. While Fiona has focussed on both painting and sculpture during her studies at The Learning Connexion, this show is all about her beautiful paintings. She has created a series of nine large scale portraits of characters from movies of the Eighties. Fiona worked in the film industry before she became a student and has always loved film, so working with these images made sense. She usually doesnt work from posters, instead she prefers to play the films through and select individual frames to paint from. Read more at tlc.ac.nz
